LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- OriginOil, Inc. (OOIL), the developer of breakthrough technology to transform algae, the most promising source of renewable oil, into a true competitor to petroleum, today announced that a process partner, World Water Works, Inc., has agreed in principle to distribute OriginOil’s dewatering and extraction systems to its global customer base. The agreement covers product integration, manufacturing and joint marketing.

“We’re excited that World Water Works have decided to manufacture and distribute our devices throughout their international customer base,” said Riggs Eckelberry, OriginOil CEO.

“World Water Works is an innovative company with a first-class manufacturing facility in Oklahoma City, and one of their technologies provides an important concentration stage in our harvesting systems. This is a major first step in our plan to integrate the algae production process for our customers,” Eckelberry noted.

“The OriginOil team are innovators, but they also know how to engineer solid devices that interface well with our systems,” said Mark Fosshage, President of World Water Works. “We are really pleased to be able to manufacture and distribute for them, and we also see potential opportunities for their technology in traditional waste water treatment settings.”

Scott Fraser, OriginOil’s VP/Operations, noted that World Water Works’ world-class manufacturing facility is key to his company’s expansion plans as it responds to high customer demand worldwide.

“In our first field tests at MBD Energy’s research facility in Australia, their algae-specific DAF was highly successful in concentrating our client’s algae after our dewatering stage; and we will fully integrate it with our harvesting systems as part of our single-vendor commitment to our customer base,” Fraser said.

The Algae Harvesting Technology Optimized (AHTO™) system, from World Water Works, is a patent-pending version of the company’s wastewater industry high rate Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) process, specifically tailored to Algae Harvesting.

The AHTO™ technology separates suspended solids (flocculated algae) from the water by a process of dissolving air into water under pressure. Upon release of that pressure, microbubbles form. These microbubbles interact with the particles to cause them to float to the surface of a vessel where they are skimmed off.

The result, according to the company, brings significant performance and cost advantages over other algae harvesting systems on the market, yielding up to 20% algae concentrations at low operational and capital costs.

About World Water Works, Inc. (web address: www.worldwaterworks.com)

About OriginOil, Inc. (web address: www.originoil.com)

OriginOil, Inc. is developing a breakthrough technology that will transform algae, the most promising source of renewable oil, into a true competitor to petroleum. Much of the world's oil and gas is made up of ancient algae deposits. Today, our technology will produce "new oil" from algae, through a cost-effective, high-speed manufacturing process. This endless supply of new oil can be used for many products, such as diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, plastics and solvents, without the global warming effects of petroleum. Other oil-producing feedstock, such as corn and sugarcane, often destroy vital farmlands and rainforests, disrupt global food supplies and create new environmental problems. Our unique technology, based on algae, is targeted at fundamentally changing our source of oil without disrupting the environment or food supplies. BOTHELL, Wash. , May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

Chris D’Couto

President and CEO

We believe that the Second Quarter of 2011 has provided us with a bright future. During the course of the second quarter, we have begun to renew commercial interest in our products and as we transition into our third quarter, are working to fully implement our go to market strategy, which consists of both product development and licensing. We are working diligently to ensure that 2011 will be a year that marks the sustained launch of the Company in the market and will serve as the foundation of our future growth. The intent of this letter is to update you on the Company and address specific questions that we have received during this period.

During the past several months, Neah Power Systems has announced various relationships in the defense and transportation markets, a key part of our first phase of growth. Key agreements include:

-- Collaboration with a large U.S. Defense Supplier

-- Electric Car Company , with incorporation of our fuel cells into

four-wheel electric hybrid vehicles

-- EKO Vehicles, a leading electric scooter company in India

-- Hobie Cat, a leading sailboat and kayak company

We continue to have discussions for a variety of consumer applications incorporating our fuel cells. We believe that the discussions are the result of the awards and recognition that the Company received in 2010. Some notable examples include the 2010 Best of What's New™ Popular Science, which is one of its most prestigious awards in technology. In addition, we were a 2010 finalist in the Washington Technology Industry Achievement Awards and Neah's CEO was invited to present at various forums, including most recently the 2011 Japan Fuel Cell Expo.

Many technology offerings have early significant breakthroughs, often coupled with serious challenges. For example almost all other portable fuel cells, first or second generation, are PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) based. These membranes have short lifetimes and are negatively impacted if they operate in high or low humidity. Contamination can affect their performance, and they can be very expensive to manufacture. In contrast, we believe that because our fuel cells are silicon-based (same technology that is used in the manufacture of computer chips), they have approximately 2 1/2 times the power density (power per unit area) of a PEM, and can be manufactured in high volumes at low cost using existing computer chip manufacturing capacity. Furthermore, we believe that the Neah fuel cell is suited to operate without air ("anaerobic" operation). This unique capability makes us an attractive solution for automobiles, trucks, two wheelers, forklifts, electric scooters (EKO Vehicles), four wheeler applications ( Electric Car Company ) and water-based transportation (Hobie Cat). These are hybrid implementations where a fuel cell can be used to continually charge a battery which in turn powers a vehicle's motor.

As we move beyond the first half of our fiscal year 2011, we are actively packaging our technology and building a series of offerings in:

-- Licensing

-- Product Development

-- Prototype Development

-- Engineering Support

Our goal is to complete several licensing arrangements through the thoughtful development of our sales and marketing activities before the close of this fiscal year, and, furthermore, working in concert with several specialty manufacturers to design and develop prototype systems based on our fuel cell systems.

Our goal through the balance of our fiscal year and indeed through the end of calendar year 2011 is to leverage the hard work of the past eight years to provide a solid foundation for our future. The prototypes are complete and we now move to the implementation and distribution phase of our growth. This is a dynamic time for Neah, with new faces, new markets and new products. With careful management and planning we believe that Neah is well positioned to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Thank you for your continued support of Neah Power and the Company's management team.

In California, we update you today on the latest from Solazyme’s proposed IPO. The company filed updates to its S-1 registration statement this past week, which can be found here.

Proceeds. Solazyme said “We anticipate that the initial public offering price of our common stock will be between $15.00 and $17.00 per share,” and expects to net $138 million at the mid-price for its shares, which would value the company at $919 million. Noting that the company has granted the underwriters an additional 1,496,250 shares of common stock to cover over-allotments,” proceeds from the IPO could be as high as $160 million, and take the valuation of the company to as high as $930 million.

Q1 2011 results. At the same time, the company reported that its losses in the first quarter of 2011 widened to $7.325 million, on sales of $7.742M, compared to a loss of $3.988 million on sales of $5.758M for Q1 2010. Expenses for Q1 2011 were generally in line with the average for the last nine months of 2010.

Who owns Solazyme? The largest holding, 13.9 million shares, belongs to the Roda Group, which would emerge with holdings valued at $222 million, post-IPO at the expected range. Braemar Energy Ventures holds 5.0 M shares, which would value at $80.3M post-IPO. Founders Harrison Dillon and Jonathan Wolfson will have holdings worth $66M and $65M, should the IPO price in the expected range, while entities associated with chairman Jerry Fiddler would have holdings of $58M, post-IPO, and Lightspeed Venture Partners would hold $45M in shares.

Dillon and Wolfson are each selling 300,000 shares in the IPO, which could net up to $5 million each.

In total, the 57 million shares in Solazyme would be divided as follows:

34.533M issued in capital raises

9.975M issued in the IPO

8.842M issued to founders Jonathan Wolfson and Harrison Dillon

1.847M issued to executives, outside directors

1.83M issued to others

The returns in the game. Let’s look at the potential returns for early-stage investors who correctly identified Solazyme’s promise, and took the risk, should the Solazyme IPO price as expected.

Series A

7.746M shares issued at $0.39

Cost to investors: $3.0M

Post IPO value: $123.9M

Series B

8.581M shares issued at $1.01

Cost to investors: $8.7M

Post IPO value: $137.3M

Series C

11.431M shares issued at $5.04

Cost to investors: $57.6M

Post IPO value: $182.9M

Series D

6.775M shares issued at $8.86

Cost to investors: $60M

Post IPO value: $141.8M

Buy or sit out the IPO?

In March we wrote: “IPO or no-IPO? We see this as a no-brainer. The share valuation? Well, that will depend on the number of shares they are offering. Their latest capital round, last year, valued the company at $8.86 per share, at a time when the company was internally valued at $187 million. and that internal value has shot up by 171 percent since then.”

$16 per share is not a long-term valuation.

Ultimately, we believe bio-based energy and chemicals companies will need to reach the $5 billion revenue threshold for long-term survival – the oil industry records $3.8 trillion in annual sales of crude oil alone – and bio-based companies play in value-add markets as well as commodities, and stretch beyond oil into agriculture, food, HBA products and more. Ultimately, at oil company margins and price-revenue ratios (see Shell’s data), survivor companies, we believe, will have a minimum value of $2.74 billion. So there’s around a 66 percent “not going to make it to prime time” discount on Solazyme, the way we see it.

Qualified analysts will weigh in on the viability of the investment. For us, that’s a lot of upside for the investor, even now.

OriginOil Receives Order for Large-Scale Algae Extraction System

MBD Energy places an order for a large-scale algae extraction system to be installed at the first of three commercial ‘CO2 to Energy’ power station projects in Australia

Los Angeles, CA – May 23, 2011 – OriginOil, Inc. (OOIL), the developer of a breakthrough technology to extract oil from algae and an emerging leader in the global algae oil services industry, today announced it has received a firm order for a large-scale algae extraction system from a leading solutions provider in the field of industrial CO2 waste management, MBD Energy, Ltd. (MBD). The order follows recent collaborative trials of OriginOil’s equipment focused on optimizing capacity to handle large volumes of algae continuously.

The new system on order is one of the largest next-generation extraction systems of its kind in the world. The equipment is expected to process up to 1100 liters (300 gallons) per minute of algae culture continuously, enough to process the daily harvest at MBD’s upcoming one hectare site at Queensland’s Tarong power station.

“This milestone places OriginOil at the forefront, globally, of delivering high scale, energy-efficient dewatering and extraction of algae, one of the most critical issues facing algae production today,” said Riggs Eckelberry, OriginOil CEO. “Our work with MBD has also proven our ability to help collaboratively integrate other vendors in the process to ensure an end to end solution for our industry.”

With this firm new equipment order, OriginOil will approach its forecast of $1 million in booked sales for products and services in 2011.

“We are currently installing the first hectare of our project at Tarong Power Station in Queensland and OriginOil’s equipment will help us efficiently harvest and process the very large volumes of algae biomass we expect to produce, beginning later this year,” said Managing Director Andrew Lawson, MBD’s Managing Director.

Lawson added that “OriginOil’s participation with us in this landmark power station project provides a strong base for MBD Energy and OriginOil to prosper as a result of a growing pipeline of large-scale CO2 to Energy Algal Synthesizer installation projects at power stations and other emitters in Australia and around the world.”

MBD Energy previously committed to a mobile OriginOil extraction unit to support the building stage of the one hectare proof of concept phase at Tarong Power Station, one of Australia’s three largest coal-fired power plants. Once the large-scale system is in place, the mobile unit will be deployed at the next power station pilot site, and so on.

According to MBD Energy, the one hectare facility will use the power station's CO2-laden flue-gas to feed a Bio-CCS (Bio-based Carbon Capture and Storage) Algal Synthesizer. It will serve as proof of concept for a larger, second stage facility of up to 80 hectares (197 acres) before being progressively expanded to a much larger third stage facility.

MBD Energy is regarded as being at the forefront of solutions for stationary industrial emitters such as power stations, smelters and refineries - that securely and efficiently converts captured flue-gas emissions into oil-rich algal biomass via proprietary systems.

CABN

SANTA BARBARA, CA--(Marketwire - 05/23/11) - Carbon Sciences Inc. (OTC.BB:CABN - News), the developer of a breakthrough technology to make gasoline from natural gas and carbon dioxide, today announced initial test results of its dry reforming of methane technology in a commercial facility.

Byron Elton, Carbon Sciences' CEO, commented, "Earlier this year we began commercial performance testing of our catalyst as part of our aggressive 2011 development plan. As of today, with nearly 600 hours of continuous testing, our breakthrough catalyst performed at levels that exceeded our expectations. In fact, it performed very close to laboratory levels, which were already close to theoretical limits. This is an exciting and important milestone in the quest to use natural gas as a viable transportation fuel."

Unlike other approaches that use compressed natural gas in redesigned gas stations and vehicle engines, Carbon Sciences' technology is aimed at converting natural gas and carbon dioxide into liquid fuels for use as 'drop-in' replacements for petroleum based gasoline and other fuels. The key to the company's technology is a high performance catalyst for the efficient transformation of CO2 and methane gas into a synthesis gas, which can then be processed into gasoline and other products currently derived from petroleum. The fundamental reaction being catalyzed is known as CO2 reforming of methane.

Ches Upham, Director of Development for Carbon Sciences added, "One of the most encouraging results is that during the testing, the conversion of methane and selectivity to CO and H2 were as high at the end as it was at the beginning. This suggests that we have solved the problem of premature catalyst deactivation that has plagued other dry reforming efforts in the past. It is especially impressive that these results were accomplished without the addition of steam to the reactor, and no precious metal was used in the catalyst formulation."

"Achieving energy independence and security is crucial for the nations of the world," Elton said. "We believe that the successful commercialization of our technology will allow the U.S. and other countries to finally achieve a realistic energy policy that does not depend on petroleum. Abundant domestic natural gas resources can be used to produce all the liquid transportation fuels required, in a cost-effective, secure and environmentally sound manner. The use of a greenhouse gas CO2, as a co-feed, makes our process particularly attractive."

ARWR:

Dr. Anzalone: We have a number of catalysts that we hope to

accomplish this year. Breaking these down by subsidiary, with Calando,

we expect to finish the Phase I trial and execute on a commercial partnership

this year. Those are two substantial milestones for Arrowhead. Additionally,

we are looking to form a new scientific advisory board around

Calando to assist in future development with these assets and ultimately

establish new clinical candidates and clinical protocols.

With Ablaris, we have two major catalysts. We believe one is

the publication of a paper that we will report on the primate results. The second will be the completion of an IND filing and initiation of a Phase

I trial. For Nanotope, we believe that we can execute another commercial

partnership, akin to the one that we did with Smith & Nephew, in another

tissue type. With Leonardo Biosystems, we believe that we are approaching

a major milestone in optimizing our manufacturing of our silicon

particles. By end of the year, we believe can have that process optimized

and begin to scale that operation.

OriginOil Receives Increased Order for Large-Scale Algae Extraction System

New total brings orders to $1 million for the year to date

Los Angeles, CA – August 12, 2011 – OriginOil, Inc. (OOIL), the developer of a breakthrough technology to extract oil from algae and an emerging leader in the global algae oil services industry, today announced it recently received an increased order for a large-scale algae extraction system from MBD Energy, Ltd. (“MBD”), a leading solutions provider in the field of industrial CO2 waste management.

“On May 23, 2011, we announced that we received a firm order for a large-scale extraction system from MBD,” said Riggs Eckelberry, OriginOil CEO. “Recently, MBD increased this order due to changes in configuration, and issued a purchase order on July 29, 2011. The total value of this purchase order is $850,000, of which $297,500, or 35%, was paid on August 5, 2011.”

The second payment for this order, for $425,000 or 50% of the total, will be due within five (5) business days after notification from OOIL to MBD of the availability of the extraction system and a successful inspection and power test. The final payment of $127,500, or 15% of the total, will be due within five (5) business days after the completion of installation and performance acceptance.

In January of this year, OriginOil received an order from MBD totaling $150,000 for a mobile system. At the time, OriginOil received a deposit of 50%, with future payments of 25% respectively for notification of availability, and completion of installation.

The total of these orders represents a backlog of $1 million for the year to date.

The new system on order is one of the largest next-generation extraction systems of its kind in the world. The equipment is expected to process up to 1100 liters (300 gallons) per minute of algae culture continuously, enough to process the daily harvest at MBD’s upcoming one-hectare site at Queensland’s Tarong power station.

According to MBD, the one-hectare facility will use the power station's CO2-laden flue-gas to feed a Bio-CCS (Bio-based Carbon Capture and Storage) Algal Synthesizer. It will serve as proof of concept for a larger, second stage facility of up to 80 hectares (197 acres) before being progressively expanded to a much larger third stage facility.

MBD is regarded as being at the forefront of solutions for stationary industrial emitters such as power stations, smelters and refineries - that securely and efficiently recycles captured flue-gas emissions into oil-rich algal biomass via proprietary systems.

MBD Energy: Next Algae IPO?

Posted on August 21, 2011 by Editor| Leave a comment

MBD Energy, Australia’s leading player in the fast-growing Carbon Capture and Recycling (CCR) industry, has exceeded its private investment goals.

(OriginOil is a key supplier of algae harvesting technology for MBD Energy.)

Algae group MBD Energy is one step closer to an IPO after successfully raising $22 million in its fourth round of private fundraising. The company, which proposes to capture emissions from utilities and other emitters and use it to grow algae which will then be sold for meal and biofuels, sought $15 million in its latest raising, but raised the target after a strong reaction from investors.

Coal miner Anglo American took part, and now holds a 19.9 per cent, while a new investor, the Sydney-based Sentient Fund, also holds a 19.9 per cent. CEO Adrew Lawson said four new funds were among the subscribers to the latest raising, which could reach $25 million depending on further talks with three other funds. This will take total funds raised over the four rounds to about $50 million.

Lawson said the next fund raising would be an IPO…
